Ireland’s Blue Book has some New Members

A Luxurious Georgian Mansion, Quirky Townhouse, Historic Inn, Elegant Townhouse and 15th Century Castle join Ireland’s Blue Book for 2023.

I’m a big fan of Ireland’s Blue Book and look forward to finding out each year what new properties have joined the list. Fernhill House and Gardens in Cork, The Lansdowne Kenmare in Kerry, The Old Inn in Down, Perryville House in Cork and Tubbrid Castle in Kilkenny are the five new properties joining the Ireland’s Blue Book collection of country houses, historic hotels, and restaurants for 2023. The new additions bring the total number of properties in the Ireland’s Blue Book collection to 63.

Fernhill House & Gardens is a luxurious Georgian Mansion set on picturesque gardens overlooking the beautiful countryside of Clonakilty in West Cork. Fernhill’s gardens are among the finest in Ireland. The gardens inspire everything at Fernhill including their own gin and food which features produce from their Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden.

Adorned by acres of stunning gardens and overlooking Clonakilty’s rolling countryside is the historic Georgian Mansion House of Fernhill. The gardens inspire everything at Fernhill including their own gin and food which features produce from their Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden. Sustainability and biodiversity are part of the experience at Fernhill which has led to their efforts being recognised nationally. The estate features a permaculture forest, bee meadow, protected ancient forest glen, growing its own produce, making its own gin, community tree planting projects, solar panels, its own well water for guests and many more. Fernhill is currently ranked as the 7th best hotel in Ireland on Tripadvisor and won the award for ‘Irelands Best Wedding Venue’ at the Gold Medal Awards this year.

Tubbrid Castle is a 15th-century Irish castle deep in Ireland’s Ancient East. Uninhabited for the past hundred years, it has been restored to its former glory. Sleep and feast like a king in a four-poster bed and it’s Great Hall’s fully equipped kitchen and oak banquet table.

Nestled in Kilkenny’s Sliabhardagh Hills, Tubbrid Castle blends modern touches with the authentic experience of staying at a 15th-century tower house. After waking in a four-poster bed under a vaulted stone ceiling, guests can look forward to relaxing in a deep, bubbly bath and sipping their morning coffee ensconced in an original window seat, while watching out for foxes and deer from the nearby woodland. In the evening, use the Great Hall’s fully equipped kitchen and oak banquet table to feast like a king, before retiring to enjoy the log-fired stove, where the original fireplace is inscribed ‘1596’.

The castle costs from €725 per night and has three bedrooms
