Father’s Day Adventures on Virgin Media One’s Elaine Show

It’s Father’s Day on June 20th so on this week’s Travel Tuesday we have great gift ideas for the Dad in your life. If he’s adventurous or prefers the quieter life we have something that will appeal to all the men in your life.

Fishing

Why not try fishing on Lough Derg – I went there for the first time a couple of weeks ago and had the most amazing time. I didn’t realise that there was so much to do around Lough Derg and that it’s the second largest body of water in Ireland. I stayed in Tipperary at www.thecalvesfield.com/ a wonderful Air BnB that can take up to 8 people in comfort.

Paul Bourke from Irishfishingtours.com showed me everything I needed for a great day out. We set out from Garrykennedy and took in a tour with Ger Madden from Holy Island Boat Trips out of Mountshannon along the way. Lough Derg is especially good for Pike fishing and some fish weigh up to 35 pounds. The good news is the fish get their photos taken and then go back into the lough to be caught another day. Paul’s rates are €250 for a full day fishing. http://www.irishfishingtours.com

If you want to learn more about fishing options go to https://www.fisheriesireland.ie/

Check out my video of my trip to Lough Derg

Pallas Karting

Also in Lough Derg up at the top of the lake is Pallas Karting and race track…It’s a great day out for all the family. With two different courses you can try rally cars or go karts but a fun time is assured. Paintballing is also available on site so there is lots of adventure. They also offer special classes for learner drivers on the track. https://www.pallaskarting.com/ Our arms were exhausted after a thirty minute race so this is the ideal time for a first visit and the rate is €35pp
