Mamma Mia What A Party!

I’m lucky to get invited to some fabulous places and recently Keith Prowse took me to London to step into the magic of Mamma Mia! The Party at The O2! I didn’t know what to expect until walking through the doors as I was transported to a sunset-drenched Greek island. Little did I realise I’d spend the next four and a half hours eating delicious Greek food, enjoying dazzling entertainment as all the great ABBA Hits were brought to life! I was at the matinee show but I’ve been reliably informed that the evening show goes on from 6pm to midnight!

Set in Nikos’ Taverna, we were greeted by a glass of champagne on arrival and the infectious euphoria of the event unfolded. We were swept into a joyous story as we enjoyed a four-course Greek feast.
Then, after a westend-style performance from well known actors, that included trapeze and dance, we took part in an ABBA disco featuring iconic tracks like Dancing Queen, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, and Mamma Mia!

Tables were set in groups of all sizes, from as small as two up to eight guests and there were plenty of families, friends celebrating birthdays and hen parties in the audience. But after a few rounds of wine and infectious dancing the crowd felt like we had all been invited to the one big party 🎈 and we had!

My description doesn’t do this wonderful fun filled event justice but if you need inspiration for the best girls night out in London then I guarantee this experience will have you euphoric!

Some Interesting Facts About MMTP!

Mamma Mia! The Party was the brainchild of ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus, inspired by his love of the Greek tavernas in Skopelos when they were filming the Mamma Mia! movie in 2008. When the movie became a huge success, tourists flocked to the island and it was apparent that a world was created that audiences never wanted to leave. It was at that moment that Björn was inspired to create Mamma Mia! The Party, featuring an entirely new story set in a Greek taverna and ending with a glittering ABBA disco.

In 2016, Mamma Mia! The Party opened in Stockholm (still thriving today) and following its success, it was decided that the production would be brought to London. Following a lengthy venue search, the team found its current home in The O2—the site of a disused nightclub which would be transformed into a Greek taverna. It took four months to create the world of Nikos Taverna, which gives audiences a slice of Skopelos in London. The taverna itself replicates the temperature and scent (lavender) one would experience at dusk on a Greek evening.

Since opening in August 2019, Mamma Mia! The Party London has welcomed over 500,000 guests, delivered over 1000 performances and has been visited by guests from 110 countries with Irish guests forming a huge contingent within the taverna each night.
