Kilkenny Great Outdoors Re-opening April 26th 2021

There’s lots to do in Kilkenny and I cannot wait for inter county travel to start so I can get to some of these attractions that I have yet to visit. In the meantime those who live in Kilkenny can start to enjoy these attractions from Monday 26th April – and don’t forget if you live 20km for these attractions you can visit also! Nore Valley Park – Opens April 26th

 

At Nore Valley Park, you will find everything from pet farms, archery, mini golf, go karts and tractor rides across the lush green lands of the farm! There is a packed timetable of events which includes interactions with animals like lambs, baby kids, chickens, ostriches and rabbits, some of which children get the opportunity to bottle feed!!

Set against the beautiful backdrop of this scenic valley, with acres of parkland and woodlands to explore, Nore Valley Park provides hours of amusement for the family. Walk the 3km nature trail or test your skills on their giant chess board! If the sun is shining don’t forget to pack a picnic or if the Irish weather fails you, there is an on-site café offering tea and coffee and home baked treats!

Kiltorcan Raceway – May 01st

Kiltorcan Raceway is one of Ireland’s best go-kart circuit’s and is known to be challenging, exhilarating and fun, while still being an extremely safe track.

Castlecomer Discovery Park

For families who love an adrenalin filled day followed by a picnic, then Castlecomer Discovery Park is the ideal place. The 80-acre activity park features a wide range of exhilarating activities for all ages, for now you can enjoy the woodland walks, Canopy Café and the Elf & Fairy Village. Further facilities will reopen in due course.

Woodstock Gardens

The beautiful Woodstock Gardens and Arboretum are located overlooking the River Nore Valley and the picturesque village of Inistioge. The gardens date to the 1740’s with the main development taking place in the 1800’s. Features include a walled garden, rose garden, rockery garden, a recreated Turner Conservatory, a collection of rare and exotic trees in the arboretum and much more including many tranquil woodland walks.

Adventure Playground

Jenkinstown Woods

A great location for a family outdoor escape is Jenkinstown Woods. There are two marked walks through the forest – the Walled Garden Loop (2.5 km) and the Jenkinstown Wood Loop (4km). Both walks start and finish at the car park and are suitable for both younger and older family members.

 

Kilkenny Castle Parklands

Kilkenny Castle Park comprises of an incredible 21 hectares of land providing the ideal spot for a picnic no matter how big the family are!!  The park also has woodland walks & a superb children’s playground with swings, slides, bridges and benches for adults too and is open until 8.30 pm during the summer.

Kilkenny Trails

All the walks on Kilkenny Walking Trails are free of charge and take place in areas of local heritage and natural history interest, taking walkers alongside rivers and canals as well as through towns and villages. The walks are of varying lengths and gradients, from the ‘easier’ routes like Castlecomer Loop & City Walks to the more difficult Brandon Hill Loop, all offering something for everyone no matter what their interests or abilities.
