Wellness Breaks with Ireland’s Blue Book

With so much uncertainty around travel at the moment a short wellness break in Ireland might be just the ticket. We are blessed with many lovely resorts around the country that include Spas and facilities where you can switch off from the rest of the world or immerse yourself in nature instead.

Wineport Lodge

Wineport Lodge is more home from home than a hotel with a unique sense of cosiness and comfort at every turn. I just adore this hotel’s tranquil setting surrounded by water and native woodland on the banks of Lough Ree. The Cedarwood Spa not only has the option of outdoor seaweed baths overlooking Glasson Lake but two hot tubs perched on a jetty next to a luxurious pergola where you can laze tranquilly and enjoy the complimentary glass of Prosecco. Another gorgeous activity is soaking in the deep outdoor baths covered in seaweed and will do wonders for your skin. The Cedarwood Spa has an Infinity Plunge Pool and did I mention the food is fabulous too!

Slip away for a night and enjoy a thirty minute spa treatment each and four course dinner with bed and breakfast from €535 for two people. Subject to availability www.wineport.ie

The Old Inn

Thinking of heading north for a spa break? Nestled in the charming village of Crawfordsburn only a few minutes from Belfast is The Old Inn. It’s close to castles, beaches and parks and one of the world’s top links golf course. The Old Inn dates back to 1614 and is one of the regions most historic hotels. It’s linked to author CS Lewis who spent his honeymoon there.

I challenge anyone not to feel revived after enjoying a couple of hours at the Tree Top spa. This charming retreat includes a large Roman Bath, sauna and Jacuzzi right in the middle of the grounds and a relaxation room with burning stove and sheepskin rugs. Surrounded by lush forest you will feel like you have been transported to Narnia – or the other side of the world at least.

To enjoy a luxurious overnight stay, dinner in the award winning AA rosette restaurant and an indulging 60 minute treatment this winter costs from €585 for two people sharing. Prices vary depending on choice of rooms. The Old Inn is part of the fabulous Galgorm Collection that includes the Rabbit Hotel and Galgorm Resorts also based in Northern Ireland. www.Theoldinn.com

Ice House Mayo

If you haven’t been to the Ice House in Ballina yet then this is the ideal couples retreat. Why not indulge in this two night package and come away totally relaxed. The award winning Chill Spa features thermal areas and has outdoor hot tubs overlooking the River Moy.

I’ve stayed in the gorgeous Riverview Rooms and it’s like waking up on a river cruise. Dinner is included on the evening of your choice and the food here is legendary. Also included is an 80-minute signature Wellness on the Moy Package that involves a Massage & Facial treatment for two in Chill Spa’s new Wellness duo treatment room. The suite includes a private hot tub and full use of the spa indoor/outdoor thermal suite. This is certainly one for couples.
